DT Hughes Group: Who Are We?

David Hughes 22/11/2022 12:30:00

DT Hughes Group is a family run business established in 1984. Since then we have grown steadily to become a leading Civil Engineering and Utility Operations Service Provider across Merseyside and North Wales.

Within our group, we have a number of different divisions as we continue to build on our reputation and expand within our industry. These divisions include: Electricity, Telecoms, Highways Surfacing, Civil Engineering, Domestic Building Contractors and Commercial.

We have long term framework agreements with Distribution Network Operators: SP Energy Networks, and Openreach. These multimillion pound contracts involve the excavation, reinstatement, cable installation, and jointing of the Electricity and Fibre Networks including the traffic management for our operations, which is carried out by our service partner Site Safe Traffic Solutions.

Our head office is located in Aintree, Liverpool with satellite offices across Wirral and North Wales. Our ever growing and fast paced offices employ over 70 members of staff, from general administration to project management. Out on our sites we have over 250 members in our team, with an outstanding roster of experience. The retention of our staff is excellent and that’s something that we’re really proud of, as our family culture and values is at the heart of everything we do.

DT Hughes Group also has an ongoing recruitment programme, focusing on employing local people. They can have zero experience, or a wealth of it. We are passionate about hiring employees from varied backgrounds, industries and training, with the aim to educate and upskill those that have the motivation and dedication.

We are proud to have partnered with the local charity Weapons Down Gloves Up, which engages with 16-24 year olds in the Liverpool City Region who are not in education, employment or training. They provide a number of skill sets including industry specific training, instil discipline, confidence and drive. We then offer employment opportunities and further training within our industry.

Another thing that we are passionate about is sustainability and choosing the most eco friendly options available. Our partnership with SP Energy Networks means that we are involved in the Green Recovery project, which is a £300m contract to support the transition to Net Zero and deliver a green economic recovery from Covid-19. The project will provide additional electrical capacity to enable the connection of a host of low carbon technologies, such as electric vehicles and heat pumps.

We are also working with SP Energy Networks on their RIOO-ED2 Business Plan in order to get the UK ready for an electric future. From 2023 to 2028, this plan establishes the vision for a network that can meet the challenge of Net Zero across more than 100,000km of network and 30,000 substations, and will benefit more than 3.5 million homes and businesses in the UK.
