Lost CSCS Card: How to Replace It

If you have lost your CSCS card, check the My CSCS app before anything else. Your digital card sits in the app and is accepted for site access, so in most cases you can keep working. If you need the physical card replaced, it costs £36 and carries the same expiry date as the original.

Check the CSCS App Before You Do Anything Else

This is the part most people miss, and it can save you a lost day.

CSCS cards now exist digitally as well as physically. If you have registered on the My CSCS app, your card is in there, and the digital version is accepted for site access in the same way as the plastic one. A site manager checks it exactly as they would a physical card.

So if you have lost the card but still have your phone, you are very likely still able to work. Download the app if you have not already, log in with the details you applied under, and your card should appear.

Try that before you pay for anything.

How Do You Get a CSCS Replacement Card?

If you want the physical card back, or you cannot get into the app, you can order a replacement.

Individual cardholders log into My CSCS, go to the My Cards section, select the card that needs replacing and choose Replace Card. Employers, training providers and third parties order replacements through CSCS Online instead, using the correct account type.

The replacement is issued against your existing card record rather than as a fresh application, which is why it keeps the original expiry date. In practice that means the process is a few minutes in the app rather than a return to the qualification and test stage.

The same route covers a damaged card, and it is worth acting before it fails rather than after. Cards are checked electronically, so damage to the chip or the printed detail can cause a check to fail even though the card is genuine and in date. A card that looks tired to you may already be unreadable to a scanner, so if yours is cracked, worn or has been through the washing machine, order the replacement now rather than finding out at a site gate.

How Do You Order a New CSCS Card?

Ordering a new physical card and replacing a lost one are the same process, and it is worth being clear about that because people search for both.

If you already hold a valid card and simply need the plastic again, that is a replacement, and it keeps your existing expiry date. If your card has run out, ordering a new one is a renewal rather than a replacement, and that gives you a fresh term. If you have never held a card, it is a new application, which means a qualification and a health and safety test pass first.

The route is the same in all three cases: the My CSCS app for individuals, CSCS Online for employers and training providers.

Does a Replacement CSCS Card Have a New Expiry Date?

No. A replacement carries the expiry date printed on the original card.

That matters more than it sounds. If your card was close to expiring anyway, paying £36 for a replacement that runs out in two months is money badly spent. In that situation you are better off renewing, which costs the same £36 and gives you a fresh term.

Check the expiry date before you order. If it is inside six months, our guide to how long a CSCS card lasts and how to renew it is the one you want instead.

How Much Is a Replacement CSCS Card?

£36, the same as a new application or a renewal.

There is no separate, cheaper replacement rate, and equally there is no penalty for having lost it. If a third party site quotes you considerably more, they are adding a service charge on top of a process you can complete yourself in the app in a few minutes.

How Do I Check My CSCS Card Details?

If you cannot remember your registration number or cannot get into your account, start with the app.

Your card and its details are held in My CSCS once you are logged in, using the details you originally applied under. If you cannot log in, contact CSCS to recover the account rather than starting a fresh application, because a new application will not give you back the card you already hold.

It is also worth asking whoever you work for. Employers, training providers and third parties have their own CSCS Online accounts and apply for cards on behalf of their workforce, so if your card was arranged through an employer or a training provider, the details are likely to be on their account rather than only on yours.

How to Find My CSCS Number

Your registration number is shown on the card itself and inside the My CSCS app once you are logged in. If you have neither, your employer or training provider is the fastest route, because whoever applied on your behalf holds it on their account.

Once you have recovered access, note the number somewhere separate from the card and photograph both sides. It makes the next time trivial.

What Should You Do If Your CSCS Card Is Stolen?

Report it to CSCS, and do so promptly.

A stolen CSCS card carries your name and your qualification record, and cards are a known target for fraud. CSCS take card fraud seriously enough to run a dedicated reporting process for it, so telling them the card is no longer in your hands is worth doing before you do anything else.

You then order a replacement in the normal way, through the app or through CSCS Online, at the standard £36.

If the card was taken alongside other documents, it is worth reporting to the police as well and keeping the crime reference number. That is less about the card itself and more about the identity information on it.

How to Avoid Losing It Again

Register on the My CSCS app if you have not already. It is the single most useful thing you can do, because it turns losing the physical card from a lost week into an inconvenience.

Beyond that, photograph the front and back of your card and keep the image somewhere you will find it, and note your registration number separately from the card itself. Recovering an account is far quicker when you can quote the number.

If you are working in construction or civil engineering across Liverpool, Merseyside, Wirral or North Wales and want to talk through your qualifications or your team's records, the DT Hughes Training Academy can help, or you can contact our team directly.
